The LIV has commented on the Royal Commission into Aged Care's key recommendations in a submission to the Law Council of Australia (LCA).

The LIV especially noted the differing perspectives of Commissioners Tony Pagone QC and Lynelle Briggs AO regarding oversight of the aged care sector moving forward.

One proposed model suggests a reorganisation of the Department of Ageing, in contrast to the other which recommends two new independent agencies to govern the sector. While both models would provide greater accountability, the LIV prefers the independent regulator model, which is also favoured by the Productivity Commission and the Grattan Institute.

The LIV provided comments to the majority of the Royal Commission's 148 recommendations.
