Amendments to s194 IBAC Act in FOI Amendment Bill 2016

By Administrative Law & Human Rights Section

Advocacy Freedom of Information Legislation Police

The LIV welcomes the Government’s steps to amend s194 of the Independent Broad-based Anti-corruption Commission Act 2011 to address any inconsistency in accessing documents between complaints lodged with the IBAC and Victoria Police.

However, the LIV is concerned that the amendments in the Freedom of Information Amendment (Office of the Victorian Information Commissioner) Bill 2016 will not, in practice, address this issue. This submission proposes some amendments to the Bill to assist it in achieving its purpose.
