Temporary Visa for Parents Discussion Paper – LCA and LIV Joint Submission

Temporary Visa for Parents Discussion Paper – LCA and LIV Joint Submission

By ALHR Section

Advocacy Human Rights

The LIV sent a joint submission with the Law Council of Australia to the Department of Immigration and Border Protection’s Discussion Paper: Introducing a temporary visa for parents. The submission provided support for this new proposed visa to alleviate waiting times, however, this support is conditional on the current permanent migration categories for parents remaining in their current form. The submission also highlighted the importance of the preservation of family units under international human rights law.
