The LIV has provided the LCA with feedback and recommendations regarding the impact of proposed changes to the Indigenous Legal Assistance Program (ILAP) and negotiations for funding to the legal sector through the new National Partnership Agreement (NPA).

The LIV has advocated against the removal of ILAP, and expressed concerns that negotiations for funding under NPA could lead to a decrease in funding for Legal Aid and much needed Community Legal Services (CLS).

The LIV has also supported the increase of incentives to encourage lawyers, law students and law graduates to locate to rural, regional and remote (RRR) areas to address the issue of a shortage of essential legal services within rural communities. It also calls for further funding to Legal Aid services to address the increase of legal matters experienced by members of the public in response to procedural fairness of government programs (such as the NDIS) and increased police numbers.
