The Law Institute of Victoria has provided comment to the Law Council of Australia (LCA) on their draft Best Practice Guide in Relation to Elder Abuse.

In consultation with the Elder Abuse Committee, the LIV has made multiple recommendations to the LCA regarding the draft guide, on topics including meeting set-up, powers of attorney, and consulting a client with a family member present.

The LIV generally supports the guide and submits that its recommendations will assist in improving a legal practitioner's understanding of how to combat elder abuse and prevent further institutional abuse.
