President's update on Uniform Law

President's update on Uniform Law

By LIV Media

Uniform Laws

The Legal Profession Uniform Law commenced on 1 July 2015. At the LIV, we see the start of the Uniform Law as the first step on the journey to a national legal profession. It was an important step, but now is not the time to lose momentum.

The Uniform Law involves a lot of players: law societies, Attorneys-General and Commissioners. We are working closely with them all to:

  • develop and share resources to help lawyers comply with the Uniform Law;
  • provide further guidance about the intended operation of the Uniform Law, including by publishing guidelines from the Commissioners; and
  • lobby for legislative amendments when the Uniform Law is operating in unfair or unintended ways.

We need to know how these changes are affecting you in your daily practice. We need the stories of what is working and what’s not working. Please take the time to watch this video to find out how you can make a difference. Together, we will complete the journey to the national legal profession.
