The graduate employment market is placing greater emphasis on practical skills. How can you get practical experience during your degree? As I wrote back in 2016, the graduate employment market has changed in recent years as more and more students try to get ahead of the crowd by obtaining practical experience to complement their studies. Students, universities and employers have only recently started to recognise the benefits of getting practical experience alongside studies, which is looked upon favourably when you are applying for graduate roles or internships. So why is it beneficial to obtain practical experience? Here are some advantages I’ve identified while undertaking practical experience during my law degree. It shows your commitment to the law Law firms and other potential employers regard practical experience highly when considering an application, especially where the experience is relevant and well described. A commitment to hands- on experience during your studies demonstrates your enthusiasm and that you are “all in” and ready to start your career.
