From Banker to Lawyer for Animals

From Banker to Lawyer for Animals

By Kirsti Weisz

Shatha Hamade left the banking and investment sector to become a lawyer for the voiceless as legal counsel for Animals Australia. Tell us how you got to where you are now at Animals Australia? When I finished law school I completed my practical legal training at a commercial law firm and continued in commercial practice. I then took up a position at the Federal Court as a judge’s associate in order to develop my experience both inside and outside the court room. All the while, I was volunteering my time with organisations and individuals who were associated with animal law advocacy. A lot of my personal time was spent helping to grow and develop a national pro bono organisation called the Barristers Animal Welfare Panel
