Coming into effect on 1 July 2025, the Aged Care Restrictive Practices Substitute Decision-maker Act 2024 (Vic) (RPSDM Act) introduces significant reforms that will reshape the legal landscape in aged care in Victoria. This legislation introduces stricter rules governing consent for the use of restrictive practices (which include physical and chemical restraints) and establishes a clearer substitute decision-maker (SDM) hierarchy.
