The move to new premises

On 4 April 2018, the Law Institute of Victoria announced it had sold its long-term CBD headquarters at 470 Bourke Street. The building had served its members and the Victorian community well for almost 40 years, but was in need of modernisation. After consulting with members, the decision was made to move to a modern accommodation within Melbourne's legal precinct to better support members, the legal profession and the larger community.

After an extensive search, the LIV chose 140 William Street as its new home.

Occupying two floors of the building, our new space will offer state-of-the-art meeting rooms, event space, member facilities and office space to LIV members and staff. There will be a dedicated members floor on level 13, which includes the LIV library, legal bookshop, conference and meeting rooms, quiet work areas and webcast facilities.

Lawyers from the Melbourne area, as well as lawyers visiting from further afield, are welcome to utilise the LIV members floor, which frequently serves as an office away from home for LIV members.
