Why wellbeing and the law

The definition of being well has come a long way since it was clinically defined as ‘absence of disease’. Today, we understand that ‘being well’ is multifaceted, and includes being:

  • Physically well
  • Mentally well
  • Fit and well
  • Eating well
  • Socially well
  • Well at home
  • Well at work
  • Spiritually well
  • Financial well

As we deal with the multifaceted nature of what it means to be, and how to achieve being well in the law, we as legal professionals often deal with additional complex layers and our overall wellbeing is important for us to be able to perform our roles competently. Addressing our physical and mental wellbeing is important and it is crucial to ensure our working environment and work culture is conducive to be being well.

The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) is committed to the health and wellbeing of legal professionals and their workplaces. This website, its tools, resources and events are all dedicated to the pursuit of being well in the law.
