      The LIV’s Special Counsel Ethics will facilitate a highly interactive workshop discussion with attendees addressing a selection of challenging ethical issues which can arise in daily legal practice in the context of adapting to change and technology in 2020. These issues will be illustrated by the use of de-identified real life scenarios. Topics for discussion will include a solicitor’s fundamental ethical duty of competence, the challenges of operating in an e-connected world, the increasing danger of inadvertently disclosing confidential documents to others, how to respond when such disclosure is made to you, some potential ethical traps for solicitors when using social media, and how to deal with the ever increasing demands of clients and others for “instant” responses.

    Michael Licenblat, Resilience Expert, Bounce Back Fast

    Michael Lincenblat is a resilience expert who teaches people how to achieve more in high-pressure environments by bouncing back from pressures and setbacks. Born into a family of entrepreneurial parents, Michael grew up working inside the numerous family businesses and quickly learnt that success often came to those who can ride the bumps, get up and keep going. Drawing on his background in Psychology, Shiatsu therapy and over 25 years of Martial Arts experience, he has helped countless companies become ‘pressure proof’ and learn how to bounce back from the setbacks and challenges so they can out-achieve their competition.  He is also the author of ‘Pressure Proof – how to thrive in time of disruption, change and pressure. His articles are regularly published in several journals and, among his clients, he has delivered presentations to Toyota, Maurice Blackburn Lawyers, Victorian Parliament, Pitcher Partners etc.

    Fabian Horton, Lecturer, The College of Law

    Fabian is a lecturer at The College of Law Victoria and director of the virtual law firm, ConnectLaw. He is the foundation chairperson of the Technology and the Law Committee of the LIV. Fabian presents widely on legal issues in areas such as cyber-security, artificial intelligence, and law apps and he advises both government and non-government organisations on many aspects of technology and its impact on the law. Fabian is currently undertaking his PhD researching how technology affects the law.

    Michael Dolan, Special Counsel, Ethics and Professional Practice, Law Institute of Victoria

    Michael Dolan is Special Counsel Ethics with the Law Institute of Victoria. Michael has had a long legal career spanning over 45 years, including 20 years as a senior executive in the electricity supply and mobile telephone industries in Australia and the UK.
