    The assessment of damages is one of the most critical phases of a common law claim and who better to guide you through the labyrinth of this complex area than leading Queen’s Counsel at the Common Law Bar, Mr James Mighell. James will share with you the benefit of his experience, knowledge and expertise in assessing damages for the countless Plaintiff’s he has represented by exploring this topic at a specialist level.

    James is joined by Craig Lynch, Practice Group Leader at Slater and Gordon and personal injury accredited specialist since 2001 to chair the session, provide valuable insight and manage question time.

    This session will equip you with the necessary tools to assess complex damages and prepare cases for trial in addition to hearing James and Craig answer questions from other personal injury law accredited specialists in attendance on the day.

    Presenter: Mr David Heath, Consulting Actuary and Director at Cumpston Sarjeant
    David Heath is a consulting actuary and Director at Cumpston Sarjeant. He has more than 25 years’ experience in general insurance and accident compensation, and more than 10 years’ experience acting as an expert witness, specialising in calculations of economic loss. David has been heavily involved in the actuarial education process, is a lecturer in actuarial studies and an Honorary Senior Fellow at the University of Melbourne. He also serves as a director on a number of boards. Despite being both a qualified actuary and accountant, he hopes he is not the most boring man in Australia

    Admitted to practice in 1995, Craig Lynch is a Practice Group Leader at Slater and Gordon.Craig has been very actively involved with the Accredited Specialisation Program at the LIV since becoming a Personal Injury Law Specialist in 2001. He was a member of the Personal Injury Law Advisory Committee between 2003 and 2011, and has been a member of the Specialisation Board since 2007, including three years as Chair (2012-2014). Craig was awarded the LIV’s Accredited Specialist Achievement Award in 2011 and is currently the Attorney General’s nominee on the VCAT Rules Committee.
