Presenter - Amanda Storey, Consumer Law Action Centre
Amanda Storey is the Director of Legal Practice at the Consumer Action Law Centre – a Victorian community legal centre that specialises in consumer credit law, consumer law and insurance law. She leads a team of 15 lawyers who are dedicated to making life easier for people experiencing vulnerability and disadvantage in Victoria. Consumer Action Law Centre operates a telephone advice service that provides free legal advice to all Victorian consumers and their support workers and runs the only dedicated Koori Helpline to provide consumer law advice to Aboriginal Victorians.
In 2019, Consumer Action was awarded the Law Institute of Victoria Access to Justice Award in its work supporting five clients who gave evidence as witnesses before the Royal Commission into Misconduct in the Banking, Superannuation and Financial Services. Amanda holds a Masters in Law specialising in commercial law and is a member of the Law Council of Australia, Australian Consumer Law Committee and the Law Institute of Victoria Competition and Consumer Law Committee. Amanda will be joining the Victorian Bar in March 2021 and plans to specialise in consumer protection, contract law, commercial litigation and insolvency law.
