About International Law Section

Previously the International Law Committee, the International Law Section (ILS) of the Law Institute of Victoria supports members with diverse legal experience and interest across its three main focus areas: international trade and commerce law, international arbitration and public international law.

Through the ILS, the LIV seeks to provide a practice-oriented forum where participants may identify, discuss and analyse international law issues that arise in their daily practice. Members find great value in the exchange of information and solutions relevant to their own practice area, as well as the networking opportunities the section affords.

There are a great many professional development and social events hosted by the LIV that are of particular interest to practitioners of international law, offering updates on domestic and international legislative changes and court decisions. In particular, the ILS holds an annual International Commercial Arbitration Moot for young lawyers.

Members of the ILS also collaborate with the other LIV Practice Sections to write submissions and engage in various lobbying activities on issues and reforms related to international law.

To learn more about the ILS and how you can get involved, please contact Bianca Porto at or phone 03 9607 9381.
