Victorian Farmers Federation

The Victorian Farmers Federation is the largest state farmer organisation in Australia and its website provides practical information that can assist your farming clients. WorkSafe found that farming can be one of the most dangerous industries to work in, and has compiled “12 farm safety tips” which can be found on the site. It also provides a list of mental health resources for rural clients who may need help.

Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria

The Domestic Violence Resource Centre Victoria is a statewide organisation that provides training, research and publications to those who may experience family violence or to professionals and organisations who are working in the field. Its knowledge centre contains links to discussion papers based on their own research as well as booklets and pamphlets to help those who have been affected. The centre also publishes the DVRCV Advocate, a biannual magazine containing material on current issues and the latest research, which can be subscribed to.

The Office of the Public Advocate is a statutory body established by the state government to protect and promote the interests of people with a disability. Its website contains a number of forms, facts sheets, guides and flowcharts regarding legal matters and decision making. Of special interest are the sections on medical consent, appointing a power of attorney and guardianship. The 73 page kit published by the OPA entitled “Taking Control” is a good resource for the public to understand the different options available to them in regard to such matters.

The Law Council of Australia – country fact sheets

If you are wondering about how the legal profession works in other countries then the country fact sheets, found on the Law Council of Australia website, gives you an overview of rules and regulations in certain regions. Located under the “Resources for the Profession” tab, the fact sheets cover 20 countries in Asia, Europe and North America and include summaries of the basis of law, regulation of the legal profession, issues relating to practising law, foreign lawyer admissions and foreign legal consultants.

The WorkSafe website is a comprehensive site providing a lot of practical information in an easy to navigate and search format. However this month the reviewer wants to highlight the legal practitioners section in case you haven’t come across it before. Located under the “Laws & Regulations” tab, this section contains documents such as policies, guidelines, legal costs orders and model litigant guidelines that can be of use in personal injury proceedings.
