The County Court criminal division is publishing monthly time to trial data for the first time in its history.

Head of the Criminal Division, Judge Lisa Hannan, said publication of the data, which started in July, represented a milestone in implementation of the International Framework for Court Excellence, which promotes transparency and timely court proceedings.

“The publication of the Indicative Time to Trial data means the legal profession and the Victorian community will now have accurate and timely information about how long it takes to have a trial heard in the County Court,” Judge Hannan said.

“Similarly, the publication of information about the number of trials not reached, currently sitting at a five-year low, demonstrates that when a trial is listed, it proceeds on the listing date in the overwhelming majority of cases.”
