Cost control documentation

Cite as: (2005) 79(7) LIJ, p. 16

When the new Legal Profession Act 2004 (the Act) comes into effect by 1 October, all practitioners will need to adjust existing standard costing documentation to reflect the new requirements.

The Law Institute of Victoria (LIV) has developed sample documents which are available to members online at, together with instructions on how to use them.

These documents can be adapted for use in practices and once the Act comes into effect they will supersede all prior standard disclosure statements and costs agreement from that time.

The sample documents include disclosure statements for litigious and non-litigious matters, costs agreement, conditional costs agreement and notice to accompany accounts/invoices. For further information, contact LIV Costing on ph 9607 9403 or email
