LIV Council

At its 29 January meeting, the Law Institute Council covered a range of issues, including its new policy in regards to admission to practice. The meeting also saw the filling of the casual vacancy of fifth executive member on the Council executive.

Admission to practice
Council passed a new policy in regards to admission to practice specifically relating to the availability of articles places and practical legal training (PLT) courses.

The new policy, which rescinds the previous policy passed by Council in August 1993, calls for articled clerks to do another year on a restricted practising certificate under the supervision of a practitioner with at least five years post-admission experience.

The policy also calls for PLT graduates to do two years on a restricted practising certificate under the supervision of a practitioner with at least five years post-admission experience.

For more information on the Institute’s new admission to practice policy, go to page 18 of this edition of the LIJ.

Election of fifth executive member
Former Law Institute president Geoff Provis has been elected to fill the casual vacancy of fifth executive member on the Council executive.

For more information on Mr Provis, go to page 16 of this edition of the LIJ.
