The Law Institute and the Law Council of Australia (LCA) are examining model legislation as part of the next stage in the development of a national profession.

The Institute was sent the model provisions in late August, three weeks after the Standing Committee of Attorneys-General (SCAG) approved them.

Institute CEO John Cain said the Institute would examine the legislation and then “go through it in some detail” with other law associations at the LCA meeting on 20 September.

The legislation will then be opened to public comment. It is hoped that the public comment phase will be completed by the SCAG meeting scheduled for November.
