Young lawyers under One Umbrella

Cite as: (2004) 78(9) LIJ, p. 17

More than 200 young lawyers attended a Law Institute-organised social and networking evening held to raise money for community organisation One Umbrella.

Attendees at the event held at Zargatt Restaurant in Federation Square on 23 July made gold coin donations to help the organisation, which provides meals to homeless people.

The fundraising event was organised as part of a growing relationship between the Young Lawyers’ Section and One Umbrella. The two groups combined to successfully lobby the state government in 2002 to introduce Good Samaritan legislation that allowed food not used by restaurants to be given to groups helping to feed the homeless. They have now combined to lobby other states and territories to introduce similar legislation.

The night raised more than $500 for One Umbrella.
