Former Holding Redlich partner Michael McGarvie was due to take up the position of Victorian Supreme Court CEO early this month.

In announcing the appointment on 2 August, Justice Department secretary Penny Armytage said she was delighted to welcome Mr McGarvie to his new role.

“As a litigation lawyer for more than 20 years, Mr McGarvie has substantial experience in the operation of the Supreme Court and contact with all levels of the Victorian court system,” Ms Armytage said.

Chief Justice Marilyn Warren highlighted Mr McGarvie’s extensive knowledge of the courts system from the litigation side.

“The Supreme Court is delighted to welcome Mr McGarvie who brings valuable experience as a practising lawyer and therefore understands the demands of litigation from the inside. But just as importantly, he understands management issues within a legal context.”

Mr McGarvie, who is well known for his experience in occupational health and safety law, was due to take up his position on 4 September.

He replaces Findlay McRae, who completed his two-year contract as CEO in March this year.
