The YLS Community Issues Committee has formed a sub-committee to look at various issues surrounding animal law and animal welfare. Since its formation, the Animal Welfare Reference Group has considered topics such as breed-specific legislation, live exports and the use of scientific testing on animals. Another issue the reference group has considered is duck hunting in Victoria: the legislation supporting duck hunting, and whether the Victorian government should ban the activity.

Your palms are sweaty, your face is flushed and there are so many handwritten notes on your once perfect outline of submissions that it’s almost impossible to read. The Judge looks at you, looks at the appearance sheet, then looks up at you again and says, “Yes Ms…errr…” Big sigh of relief. This is familiar territory. You’ve been repeating, explaining and putting up with atrocious pronunciations of your name since the first day of primary school.
