Time's up for legal workplace reform

Time's up for legal workplace reform

By Chris Molnar

Discrimination Workplace Relations

What should the profession do to free workplaces from harassment, bullying and discrimination? Societal movements, notably the #MeToo movement, have highlighted like never before adverse workplace behaviour and its negative impact on individuals. The focus on the workplace extends to issues such as gender balance, gender pay inequality, flexible work arrangements and parental leave, all with potentially discriminatory consequences. The legal profession is as affected by these issues as much as any industry, perhaps more so given the unique stressors on lawyers and judicial officers with the difficult work they undertake, and ongoing negative media directed at the profession and judges.
