They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and it’s not difficult to find examples in the history of television. A few include Family Guy (The Simpsons), Sanford and Son (Steptoe and Son), Step By Step (The Brady Bunch) and The Mentalist (Psych). Add to that various remakes and reboots. Some of us can’t forget Tonight Live where Steve Vizard’s imitation of The David Letterman Show was spooky, with Vizard imitating Letterman’s singular mannerisms to the point of copying the American host’s pencil throwing routine.
