State Trustees – Secure your will & power of attorney documents

There are times when family members don’t know if their loved one had a will, or if they did, where it was stored. State Trustees offers a service where individuals can register the location of documents or deposit and store their documents in the Victorian Will Bank. This includes wills and powers of attorney documents. The service is free for Victorians. This page has information about the service and registration and deposit forms are available to download.

Council of Australasian Tribunals – Practice Manual for Tribunals

The Practice Manual for Tribunals assists tribunal members in carrying out their duties and includes direction on procedural fairness, making decisions and conducting hearings. The current (fourth) edition was published in September 2017. The website has a Register of Australasian Tribunals and also lists tribunals that aren’t members of COAT. It provides contact details and information about the tribunals’ jurisdictions and functions covering federal, state and territory tribunals and those in New Zealand.

High Court of Australia – Overseas Decisions Bulletin

The High Court of Australia Library publishes a bulletin on overseas decisions of interest every two months. It includes decisions of the Supreme Courts of the UK, Canada, the US and New Zealand, the Constitutional Court of South Africa, the Hong Kong Court of Final Appeal and the admiralty, arbitration and constitutional decisions of the Court of Appeal of Singapore. PDF versions are available on the website back to 2013 and there is an option to sign up for email alerts.

Office of Public Prosecutions Victoria – The Prosecutor

The Office of Public Prosecutions Victoria (OPP) has recently published a new issue of its journal The Prosecutor. This is relevant to members of the criminal justice system and the community as a way to stay informed about the OPP and the Director of Public Prosecutions. The journal can be found under the News and Media tab. You can click on the latest issue to subscribe. Past issues going back to 2013 are also available on the website.

Victorian Small Business Commission – What are retail premises?

The Victorian Small Business Commission (VSBC) website has a section covering retail tenants and landlords. It includes information about repairs and maintenance, outgoings, assignment of a retail premises lease and options and renewals. There is also a useful page discussing what retail premises are, including two recent court cases that have clarified the question. The VSBC offers services in general business issues, owner drivers and forestry contractors, farmers and farm creditors and taxi drivers and operators.

ABC Radio National – Law Report

Aimed at the public and lawyers alike, this Radio National program’s website is a useful resource to keep up to date with issues being discussed in the media. You can listen to podcasts of past programs, get an RSS feed, and subscribe to the newsletter. Recent features include bosses being accountable for workplace deaths and a complaint against Facebook that could become a class action. Transcripts are available as well as other information including links to the judgment being discussed.
