The LIV's Migration Law Committee has drafted a factsheet providing key points concerning the deregulation of migration lawyers.

From 22 March 2021 unrestricted legal practitioners will be removed from the regulatory scheme that governs migration agents (the OMARA). Under the Migration Amendment (Regulation of Migration Agents) Act 2020unrestricted legal practitioners will be entirely regulated by their own professional bodies and cannot register as migration agents. This is known as Deregulation of lawyers from the OMARA.

This factsheet identifies key points under the the Act to remove Migration Lawyers from the OMARA and provides information on practising certificate conditions for migration lawyers under the Legal Profession Uniform Law in Victoria.

Read the Factsheet here.
