President's report

President's report

By Linda Rayment

The LIV Legal Careers Fair is coming up on 14 July so I thought it was an opportune time to share my tips for a fruitful career in the law:

  • pursue your passions and what you find most fulfilling
  • be guided by your instincts and your moral ethics; don’t compromise
  • share knowledge with your peers and seek great mentors
  • strive for a work-life balance and prioritise your health and wellbeing
  • if you need support the LIV has an excellent mentoring service, and don’t forget the Vic Lawyers’ Health Line, which provides confidential, independent 24 hour wellbeing services for LIV members – ph 1300 664 744
  • don’t be scared of failure, it’s ok to make mistakes
  • value everyone you come into contact with – treat all people with respect
  • always accept your responsibilities – not only to the court but also to the community
  • don’t forget the fundamental principle of being a lawyer. While you have a duty to do the best for your client, you have an overriding duty to the administration of justice and to the court.

I wish you all the best with your career in the law. Do not hesitate to contact me at
