Bail — The 2023 reforms put in practice
Bail — The 2023 reforms put in practice
The Bail Amendment Act 2023 has introduced reforms to critical aspects of Victoria’s bail laws, including changes to threshold tests, revised considerations that a bail decision maker must take into account, and removal of barriers to second applications before new fact and circumstances must be demonstrated.
The reforms will commence on 25 March 2024. In this CPD, Magistrate Donna Bakos, Head of the Criminal Division of the Magistrates’ Court, will deliver an overview of those reforms and the Court’s expectations of practitioners appearing before the Court in answer to those reforms.
